France

Fantastic holidays without airport hassle.

Although boasting a wealth of fine cities, France is still very much a rural country. In fact over 75% of its land is either farmed or forested, making it a wonderful holiday destination for those looking to enjoy the peace and slower pace of country life. With considerably more than 100,000 villages of widely differing descriptions scattered throughout the length and breadth of France – from the thatched half-timbered hamlets of Normandy, to the fortified bastille towns of the south-west – your options for relaxation and discovery are almost unlimited.

As you can imagine, with a vast coastline that stretches for well over two thousand miles, France offers an amazing variety of fine sandy beaches, stylish resorts, quaint traditional fishing villages, and delicious freshly caught seafood. In fact just about every opportunity you can ever dream of for fun and relaxation beside the sea is possible here. Covering virtually the entire length of the English Channel, then all the way down the Atlantic west coast, and finally from the Pyrenees to the Mediterranean, this is most definitely ‘the coast with the most’.

With Folkestone and the port of Dover being right on your door step, you can have a wonderful holiday without going near an airport, cutting out early check-ins, restricted baggage allowance and the M25! Pack your car with all the things you want to take, including the kids bikes and set off for the Eurotunnel crossing taking you to Calais. Alternatively, the ferry can be a welcome break for shopping, something to eat and stretching your legs.

The accommodation choices are immense, from camp sites to 5* hotels and everything in between. For family holidays you may want to consider a campsite close to sandy beaches, charming towns or near lakes in picturesque inland settings with excellent facilities including restaurants, bars and shops and all the leisure activities you could wish for. Maybe a French villa with it’s own pool or a cottage for peace and privacy would be more appropriate, maybe close to a vineyard to sample the local wines! France can offer so much that can easily be overlooked with typical thoughts of beach holidays. By taking the car you can take your home comforts with you and bring some French wines and cheeses home to enjoy!
