Magical weekend in Disneyland Paris
Just back from a fantastic weekend in Disneyland Paris with my boyfriend! We caught the late Air France flight from Heathrow to Charles de Gaulle airport. We were slightly delayed and arrived to see an unhappy man waiting to take us to our hotel. Not the best start but when we arrived at the lovely Newport Bay Hotel all was forgotten. The boat themed hotel was beautiful and bright; the staff were very welcoming and checked us in straight away. Shattered, we left our suitcases in a heap on the floor and we fell asleep as soon as our heads hit the pillow- we knew that the next day was going to be a long one!
We wasted no time getting started on the Saturday morning with an 8am breakfast. Even though it was the start of the school holidays, it wasn’t too busy and we were able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast without too many queues for the cereal and toast! As always, we like to make the most of our time so we booked an evening tour of Paris, and Buffalo Bills Wild West show for Sunday. A little expensive but this is such a popular one for our clients travelling to Disneyland, I thought it only right to experience it for myself!
We made our way to the Park early for breakfast in the park, one of the privileges of being a Disneyland hotel guest is that you can enter the parks 2 hours before general visitors so we were able to get a head start before the mad family rush! This is by no means a relaxing holiday, and if you have ever been to Thorpe Park or Alton Towers you will know what I mean! With so much to see and do, we went from ride to ride barely stopping for breath in between. We also had complimentary fast pass tickets which we were able to use on some of the most popular attractions and saved lots of time queuing! This park is primarily designed for children (not two 26 year olds!!) so there are no big thrill rides as such, but lots of smaller roller coaster’s, boat rides through magical lands, classic teacups, Merry go rounds and character shows. The park is spread over 5 ‘lands’, each with its own theme. Peter pans flight in Fantasy Land was wonderful and really brought the film to life, I think we went on it three times! Space Mountain is still one of the most popular roller coaster’s and we liked it so much we used our fast pass for a second time straight afterwards- Not a good idea straight after breakfast! Finally we decided to go back to the hotel for a relaxing swim before heading out for our tour of Paris.
Picked up in a very plush coach we were driven the 45 minute journey to the centre of Paris where we took an informative tour , passing all of the main sites including the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Champs Elysees Avenue and a stop at the Eiffel Tower for photo’s. It was lovely and relaxing- just what we needed after a busy day!
The next day we ventured into the Disney Studios Park. Situated next to Disneyland, it is significantly smaller but aimed at the older ones. The attractions are newer and slightly more thrilling. The Rock and Roller coaster featuring Aerosmith was excellent. Lots of twists and turns through bright lights whilst music boomed through the headrests- Great!! Crush’s coaster was one of my favourites, which unfortunately had the longest queue but it was well worth waiting for. Being spun around in a tortoise shell through an underwater maze was really fun! The Hollywood Hotel was not for the faint hearted, however we did go on it five times! We finished the day with Buffalo Bills Wild West show located in the Disney Village. We opted for category two seating which was more than adequate to see all of the action! A meal was included which was delicious and served to us whilst watching the show, along with unlimited soft drinks and beer. Of course the Disney characters were the stars of the show and the whole experience was outstanding. I would definitely recommend this to anyone- young or old!
A very tiring weekend, but brilliant none the less. You cannot fail to be enchanted by Disneyland whether you are 6 or 106. It brings out the child in everybody and we came away with smiles on our faces. It was very enjoyable and I can see why this is such a popular choice for families and even young couples like us. It really was magical!
